Long since lost

Crowds in the thousands used to gather here. Now it's in a sorry old state.
This is Shawfield Stadium. Former home of SPFL side Clyde FC situated next to its namesake river on the border of Glasgow and Rutherglen.
Opened in 1898, this was Clyde's second ground. It was sold for greyhound racing in the 1930s to help the club’s financial problems whilst they still played there as tenants.
Fast forward to 1986, the club lost access to the ground due to a redevelopment which never happened. Clyde entered nomad status sharing with Partick Thistle and Hamilton Academical before moving 15 miles up to Broadwood Stadium In Cumbernauld.
Greyhound racing and occasional speedway racing occurred here until 2020 when the pandemic hit.
Taking advantage of this situation, I ventured in on a drizzly morning to capture this fascinating structure. A once thriving stadium full of the good and bad, cup wins and relegations. Special moments from these terraces only occurring still as fading memories of those who were there.
Shawfield is now abandoned, while plans for its redevelopment for housing drag on.
