carved in rock

In the parallel universe of the global football scene, architect Eduardo Souto De Moura was awarded the Pritzker Architechture Prize for his part of the Estádio Municipal de Braga – the stadium that was carved into the mountain for the UEFA Euro 2004.
At grassroots level, however, no awards has been given for Bollklubben Vargarna Norrtälje’s Sportcentrum but carved into the mountain it remains.
The home club BKV Norrtälje has a first team in the Swedish fourth tier. An achievement far more inspiring is the fact that it also serves around 700 local boys and girls with a platform to play their first organized football.
Some of those have actually reached elite level, the prime example being Super-Bosse Andersson - former player and current sporting director of Djurgårdens IF (famously bringing AC Milan legend Ibrahim Ba to Sweden).
And call it an insight into the mysterious works of the universe; Bosse has actually played for SC Braga.
Significantly smaller than the Estádio Municipal de Braga, its two parallel stands and the empty area around the pitch would hold a crowd of 750.
Both size and level of football may be lower. But far more importantly Braga can’t compete with Norrtälje when it comes to hot dogs.
Just ask Bosse.
